“Our Persian rug had a stain we thought was permanent. Paulo dye-tested first and removed it completely without touching the color. Worth every dollar.”

Area rugs are investments — Oriental, Persian, and handmade pieces represent real value. We treat them accordingly. Paulo performs a full dye stability test on every rug before any chemistry touches the fibers. If there’s a risk of color bleeding, we tell you before we start — not after the damage is done. No pickup required. We work in your home, in the room the rug lives in.

Our process

Barefoot Clean
Protocol™

Five steps. Two owners. Every Fort Mill home. Adapted for Oriental, Persian, wool, synthetic, and handmade area rugs.

  1. 01
    BCP Inspect™
Full fiber identification, construction analysis, and dye stability test. We test color fastness in a hidden area before any chemistry is applied. If your rug has bleeding risk, we tell you upfront — no surprises.
    ~15 min
  2. 02
    BCP Extract™
HEPA vacuuming on both sides of the rug removes dry soil, dust, and debris embedded in the foundation. Vacuuming the underside is critical — most cleaners skip this step entirely.
    ~20 min
  3. 03
    BCP Treat™
pH-balanced pre-spray matched to your rug’s fiber type. Enzymatic treatment for pet accidents. Dwell time customized per stain type and construction. Wool gets lower pH; synthetics get stronger formula.
    ~25 min
  4. 04
    BCP Restore™
Controlled hot-water extraction removes soils and 99% of moisture. Temperature and pressure adjusted per fiber — lower heat for delicate wool and silk, higher for synthetic. Zero risk of shrinkage when done correctly.
    ~45 min
  5. 05
    BCP Certify™
Pile grooming in the direction of the nap. Air movers accelerate drying. Fringe straightened and dried flat. Your rug is ready to go back in place in 6–10 hours — or by morning if cleaned late in the day.
    ~15 min
Rug expertise

Every fiber type.
Right chemistry.

Wrong method on the wrong rug causes permanent damage — color bleed, shrinkage, pile distortion. We assess before we touch.

Type 01
Oriental & Persian
Hand-knotted rugs with natural dyes require the most careful dye testing. We check every color quadrant before treatment. pH-neutral chemistry, controlled moisture, flat drying. Most common in Baxter Village and Tega Cay living rooms.
Type 02
Wool & natural fiber
Wool shrinks with excess heat and moisture. We use lower extraction temperatures and limited moisture specifically for wool. Jute and sisal get a dry or near-dry method to prevent backing damage. Never submerged.
Type 03
Synthetic & machine-made
Polypropylene, nylon, and polyester rugs tolerate stronger chemistry and higher temperatures. Most Wayfair, Pottery Barn, and IKEA rugs fall here. Faster drying (4–6 hours) and more aggressive stain removal possible.
The smart investment

Professional cleaning
vs. replacement.

A quality 8x10 Persian or Oriental rug delivered to Fort Mill costs $800 to $3,000+. Professional cleaning by Velvo runs $80 to $180 for the same piece, restoring color and removing years of embedded soil. For handmade and heirloom rugs, professional care also preserves the investment value. Replacing a rug you could have cleaned for $120 is an expensive mistake we see regularly.

What Baxter, Springfield
& Tega Cay say.

★★★★★ Google

“Paulo cleaned our 10x14 Persian rug without taking it away. He tested the dyes first — something no other company had done — and got a red wine stain out we thought was permanent. Incredible results right in our living room.”

Fort Mill ·
★★★★★ Google

“We had a wool rug from Turkey that two other companies refused to clean because of the dyes. Velvo tested it, confirmed it was safe, and it came out looking like we just bought it. Zero color bleed. Will never use anyone else.”

Baxter Village ·
★★★★★ Nextdoor

“Our dog destroyed the fringes and left stains on our living room rug. Velvo restored it on-site — no hauling it anywhere, no waiting days. Dry by morning. The fringe was straightened and the stains are gone. Highly recommend for anyone in Tega Cay.”

Common questions

Questions from Baxter Village,
Springfield & Tega Cay.

We clean on-site in your home — no pickup, no transport risk, no waiting days for it to come back. This eliminates the risk of your rug being damaged or mixed up at an off-site facility. We bring all equipment to your Fort Mill home and work in the room where the rug lives. Most rugs are dry and back in place within 6–10 hours, often by the same evening.
Dye bleeding is the #1 risk in rug cleaning and the most common mistake by inexperienced cleaners. We perform a dye stability test on every color quadrant of your rug before applying any solution. If a dye is unstable, we use dry or near-dry methods to clean those areas safely. We never proceed without testing first — if there’s real bleeding risk we’ll tell you honestly and adjust the approach.
Shrinkage from improper cleaning is unfortunately permanent and not reversible. What we can do is clean the rug properly going forward using wool-safe lower temperatures and controlled moisture. Wool shrinks when exposed to high heat or excess moisture — techniques that are fine for synthetic rugs. We use different chemistry and settings per fiber type. This is exactly why the pre-inspection matters so much.
Pet odor in rugs goes deeper than carpet — it penetrates through the pile, the backing, and sometimes into the pad below. We use enzymatic treatment that digests the urine salts at the molecular level, not just masking with fragrance. For severe cases we treat both the rug face and the underside. Success rate depends on how long it’s been there and how deeply it penetrated — we assess during inspection and give you honest expectations before we start.
We give honest diagnostic advice during inspection. Structurally sound rugs — even badly soiled ones — almost always benefit from professional cleaning. If the foundation (warp and weft) is intact and there’s no physical damage, cleaning is almost always worth it. The exception is rugs where the backing has completely deteriorated or physical fiber damage is extensive. We won’t charge you to clean a rug that needs replacing — we’ll tell you upfront.
Jute and sisal are the most sensitive natural fiber rugs — excess moisture causes browning, stiffening, and backing damage. We use a near-dry or dry encapsulation method for these fibers specifically. Standard hot-water extraction is not appropriate for jute or sisal. If you have one of these rugs, mention it when you text us so we bring the right equipment from the start.
Yes, we regularly clean 10x14 and larger rugs on-site in Fort Mill and Baxter Village homes. Large rugs are actually easier to clean on-site than at a facility because they don’t need to be folded, transported, or unrolled elsewhere. We work systematically across the surface. The only limitation is extreme lack of space to move around the rug — which is rarely an issue in Baxter Village homes.
For rugs in high-traffic areas (living room, family room), annual cleaning is ideal in Fort Mill. The combination of SC red clay tracked in from outside and summer humidity creates more soil accumulation than drier climates. Lightly used rugs (guest bedroom, dining room) can go 18–24 months. Homes with pets or kids benefit from 6–12 month cycles. Between professional cleanings, vacuum regularly and rotate the rug every 6 months to even out traffic wear.
Yes — bundling is recommended. Most Fort Mill homeowners clean their area rugs and wall-to-wall carpet in the same appointment. Bundled pricing typically gives you 5–10% off the total. Same-day or next-day scheduling available for both. Text us photos of your rug and carpet for a bundled quote with exact pricing.
24-hour satisfaction guarantee. If you’re unhappy within 24 hours, we return and re-treat the affected area at no charge, or refund the service fee. We communicate before cleaning about realistic expectations based on rug age, fiber type, and stain severity. If our process caused an issue, we fix it free.
